Research contributions on topics of:

X-ray diffractometry (XRD), about 20 years of experience: a short selection among the materials and analyses is presented below:

  • Graphite like carbons (turbostratic graphite): nanocarbons obtained by laser pyrolysis, purified mesophase pitch doped with oxides; the amorphous-like XRD patterns of these materials can be understood only taking into account the theory of planar disorder (PhD thesis); also experience in XRD on carbon nanotubes
  • Graphite intercalation compounds (GIC): H2SO4, HNO3 and FeCl3- GICs; determination of the intercalation stage; a new interpretation method of the XRD patterns of GICs was proposed, which connects the reflection order of the line with maximum intensity with the intercalation stage
  • Perovskite ceramics: piezoelectric (e.g. PZT), ferroelectric (e.g. BT) semiconductor (chromit, manganit, lantanit), and superconductor (YBCO); phase formation studies based on XRD and thermal analysis; lattice parameter determinations
  • Hard magnets: mainly neodymium-iron-boron; XRD studies of crystalline anisotropy; determination of the degree of orientation of the easy magnetization axes with respect to the direction of the applied magnetic field, by the inverse pole figure method; on this basis, the ratio between the remanence and saturation magnetization was derived, starting from the XRD pattern
  • Polymers: semi-crystalline PE, PP, PA, and PET sheets; studies concerning the degree of crystallinity and preferred orientation; texture analysis by pole figure method (HZG-4A2 diffractometer with texture attachment); the XRD results were correlated with those obtained by IR and lead to a complex model of the structure and its modification under mechanical and thermal stress
